Safe Zone

About this Project

Safe Zone was developed during the Wiztron workshop. It uses an ESP32-C3 board to scan configured Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signals and trigger an alert when the wearer moves outside the expected safe range. A buzzer provides a local alert, while a Python script can trigger an alert on a connected laptop.

Tech Stack

ESP32-C3
Python
Wi-Fi
Bluetooth

Tools Used

Arduino IDE
Python
VS Code

Key Features

Safety Features

  • ▸Checks configured Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signals to estimate whether the tag is within the safe area.
  • ▸Uses a buzzer to provide a local alert when the safe-zone condition is triggered.
  • ▸Can send a serial signal to a Python script running on a connected laptop.

Hardware & Software

  • ▸ESP32-C3 microcontroller with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capability.
  • ▸Python script for laptop-side alert handling.
  • ▸Prototype concept for a compact wearable safety tag.

Highlights

ESP32-C3 wearable tag concept
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signal scanning
Buzzer-based local alert
Python-based laptop notification
Safety use case for children and elderly people

Challenges & Solutions

Challenge

Detecting when the tag moves away from a safe area

Solution

Explored Wi-Fi SSID scanning and Bluetooth signal range as ways to detect the safe-zone boundary.

Challenge

Providing an alert beyond the wearable hardware

Solution

Used serial communication with a Python script to trigger a laptop-side sound alert.
